AzAHPERD Awards Criteria
NASPE Teacher of the Year Criteria
In order to meet eligibility requirements, the physical educator must primarily teach in one or more K-12 grades in an individual school or school district. Additional requirements are as follows:
Eligibility Requirements:
The individual must:
- be a current member of NASPE/AAHPERD
- have a degree in and be certified as a physical education teacher
- have a minimum of five years of teaching experience in physical education
- possess a full time teaching contract that is current at the time of the nomination and selection
- have at least 60% of their teaching responsibility in physical education
Levels:
A teacher may be nominated for one of the following levels: elementary, middle school, high school, or adaptive physical education.
Award Criteria:
The teacher must exemplify the following:
- conducts a quality program reflective in the NASPE standards and guidelines for K-12 physical education programs
- utilizes a variety of teaching methodologies and plans innovative learning experiences to meet the needs of all students
- serves as a positive role model for students
- participates in professional development opportunities
- provides service to the profession through leadership, presentations, or writings.
